About Aging in Place Services
A Better Nest: Nashville TN

The term Aging in Place is becoming more and more prominent in conversation as our population ages. People are living longer and desire a high quality of life as they age. Even as there are an increasing number of good Aging in Place options, such as assisted living, independent senior communities and Continuing Care Retirement Communities, many folks are interested in exploring home-based services, and want to know how to live more successfully in their existing homes, long-term.

At A Better Nest we are often asked by folks what it means to “Age in Place.” It is important to know as much as possible about this topic when planning for or experiencing age-related changes. Historically, there have not been many options for where a person may live as he or she ages. With emerging technologies and evolving senior communities, the options are expansive.

Aging in Place Defined

Our definition of Aging in Place is as follows: Preserving the ability for people to remain at home and in their communities for as long as possible.

When to Develop a Plan to Age in Place

People consider making changes to support Aging in Place at different points along the spectrum of life.

Ideally, planning to Age in Place is a process that begins well before a crisis makes it absolutely necessary. A proactive approach means that the home environment is set up to help folks adapt to subtle changes in physiology along the way, mitigating environmental risks that increase the likelihood of serious injury.
