Julie A.

Long Distance Caregiver

Julie and her 3 siblings each live 7+ hours from Nashville.  When their parents downsized to a senior community, the children were charged with selling their longtime family home. Like most longtime family homes, there was some spiffing to do and repairs to be made before the home was market-ready.  A Better Nest worked with the family and their local Realtor to identify priority projects, and then facilitated the work, resulting in a stronger asking price and quick sale.

“…with one stop, A Better Nest handled all of the necessary repairs.  Should something go wrong, they handled it.  They had an army of resources for all types of needs. Many, many thanks for making a difficult process painless!”

Deanna S.

Family Caregiver

Deanna comes from a long line of aging-in-placers, and although her parents were adamant about remaining in the family home, she knew the house itself presented some serious challenges especially as her parents’ health declined.  Still, until her father died she really didn’t fully understand how difficult certain daily tasks had become for them. Deanna wanted to honor the wish to remain at home, but this meant addressing some significant problems. Through the Home Livability Assessment process, A Better Nest identified solutions, helped the family to prioritize their needs and budget and to decide whether modifying the house made sense for their situation.  It did, and A Better Nest coordinated the process to take the load and worry off the family.

“I wanted to make this happen for my mother, but I work full time and there was no way I could find the right people to do the work or make sure things were done right.  A Better Nest was an invaluable resource for us."

Mary Ann S.

Stroke Survivor

After a stroke, Mary Ann engaged A Better Nest to provide information about ways to increase her safety and independence at home. There is often more than one solution to a problem and costs can vary widely. A Better Nest provided unbiased information so that Mary Ann could make the best decisions relative to her situation.  The Company also facilitated the process of getting the work done.

"After having the stroke in July 2012, and my husband passing away suddenly in July 2013, I knew I would not be able to stay in the home we had built together without making some changes, and my children and I agreed that some of the changes would have to be drastic.  Having two levels, the main floor and a full basement, access was a major issue for both outside and inside.  The installation of a "vertical platform lift" was the greatest addition and well worth the expense.  It addressed both access issues to a major degree.

As I have very limited use of my right arm and hand, replacing my old wooden windows and storm doors with ones that I can easily manipulate with one hand was wonderful.  (I do like fresh air on occasion, not just the air I have to pay for.)  These are only a few of the items I had to address to bring my home to the standards that will allow me to continue to live here safely and hopefully for the remainder of my lifetime.

I am so grateful to A Better Nest for the wonderful guidance through all aspects of this process.  I could not have done it without them!"

Shirley G.

Caregiver, Aging in Place

Shirley contacted A Better Nest when her husband’s health required that he be moved to a living situation that was able to provide a greater level of care.  Shirley wanted to make sure that her husband knew that when he was able to return home, the house was ready for him.  Like many caregivers, Shirley was more concerned about her husband’s needs than her own, and hadn’t considered that she had important needs too.  Through A Better Nest’s Home Livability Assessment process, changes were identified that addressed not only her husband’s needs, but hers as well.  A Better Nest connected Shirley with one of our preferred contractors, who expertly carried out the work and became a trusted resource for her going forward.

I wouldn’t have known where to go or what to do if my daughter hadn’t found A Better Nest.   They led me in the right direction to find someone I could afford who could do a good job. This could have been a very difficult experience.   A Better Nest made the whole process much easier."
