The Lot Poses a Challenge: A River Runs Through It (10/21/14)
Our homeowners had the good fortune of knowing the challenges of this lot before building on it. When their parents purchased it (70+ years ago), they were assured there was no water on it. However, it soon became apparent that was not the case. Turns out, there was a steady trickle in the basement of the former house, which turned into a flood when it rained. This was controlled by a sump pump, but that didn’t eliminate moisture problems in the basement and therefore in the house. When power failed, they needed a row boat!
This picture was taken after the torrential rains last October. You’re looking at the basement of the former house. In order to feel confident about building here, we had to find a permanent solution for this problem.
